Professor Tsuyoshi Takato

After graduating from the Faculty of Medicine, the University of Tokyo, he received his Doctor of Medicine from the same graduate school. He has gained extensive experience at medical institutions both in Japan and abroad. His specialties are oral and maxillofacial surgery and plastic surgery. He is a former professor of oral and maxillofacial surgery in the Department of Sensory and Motor Function Medicine, Department of Surgery, Graduate School of Medicine, The University of Tokyo. He is also a former director of the Tissue Engineering Department at the University of Tokyo Hospital and former director of the 22nd Century Medical Center at the University of Tokyo Hospital. He is a director of the Japanese Society for Regenerative Medicine. He has brought his clinical experience and techniques from Canada and the United States to Japan and developed numerous new surgical procedures. He has been active as a specialist in plastic surgery and cosmetic surgery for many years. In recent years, he has focused on research and clinical applications of regenerative medicine, earning him high praise both domestically and internationally. What is regenerative medicine?

"Regenerative medicine is a medical treatment that uses the patient's own cells and tissues or cells and tissues from other people that have been cultured or processed to repair or regenerate lost tissues or organs" (Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare, Pharmaceuticals and Food Safety Bureau). By supplementing lost functions and tissues with cells and regenerated tissues, this medical treatment aims to provide a fundamental cure, and it is expected to provide new treatments for diseases that are difficult to treat. Although there has been remarkable progress in the field of regenerative medicine in recent years, regenerative medicine is generally a highly individualized medical treatment, and there are many issues that need to be addressed before it can be widely used as a new treatment, such as therapeutic effectiveness, safety, cost, and superiority over existing treatments. In Japan, since the "Act on Ensuring the Quality, Efficacy and Safety of Pharmaceuticals, Medical Devices, etc." (Act on Ensuring the Safety of Regenerative Medicine, etc.; also known as the Regenerative Medicine Act for short) came into effect in November 2014, it has become a medical treatment that must be carried out more strictly and rigorously.

What is Stem Cell Therapy?

As we age, the number and vitality of stem cells within the body decrease, which can lead to reduced immune function and slower recovery from illness or injury. Stem cells are the “seeds” of new cells, capable of repairing damaged tissues and regenerating new ones. Because of this regenerative potential, stem cells are being studied for their ability to restore or replace damaged organs and tissues in the future. Stem cell therapy involves culturing and proliferating a patient’s own stem cells, then re-administering them either by local injection to the affected area or via intravenous infusion throughout the body. In one approach, a small amount of fat tissue is collected from the abdomen, and the adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cells are cultured outside the body before being returned via intravenous infusion. Another method involves taking a small skin sample, culturing fibroblast cells, and injecting them back into the skin. Depending on the treatment objective, these therapies aim to support the recovery of damaged tissues or cellular functions, and in some cases, may help stimulate collagen production within the dermis and subcutaneous layers, promoting skin regeneration and renewal.

About Autologous Adipose-Derived Mesenchymal Stem Cell Therapy

This treatment involves collecting a small amount of fat from your abdominal area, isolating and culturing stem cells from that tissue, and then reintroducing them into your body. A small incision is made in the lower abdominal area to collect subcutaneous fat, performed by a specialist. The incision is very small, and scarring is minimal. At a certified cell processing facility, adipose-derived stem cells are carefully isolated and cultured under strict quality control. Depending on the treatment purpose, the cultured stem cells are administered via intravenous infusion or localized injection.

Autologous Cultured Dermal Fibroblast Injection

Autologous cultured fibroblast injection is an innovative new treatment in which a small portion of the patient’s own skin is collected, fibroblasts are cultured and expanded outside the body, and then reinjected into the skin. Fibroblasts are cells that produce collagen, a key component of the dermis and subcutaneous tissue. By injecting the patient’s own cultured fibroblasts, these cells are expected to produce collagen and other essential skin components, leading to skin regeneration. In a government-approved cell processing facility, fibroblasts are expanded in large quantities using advanced culture techniques. The cultured fibroblasts are then reintroduced into the patient’s body, primarily into the facial skin, through intradermal injection at the clinic. This treatment is expected to reduce wrinkles and restore skin elasticity caused by aging. Since this therapy uses the patient’s own cells, there is no risk of immune rejection, and the effects are expected to be long-lasting.

Procedure of Autologous Cultured Skin Fibroblast Injection Therapy

A small skin sample is taken from behind the ear.
Fibroblast cells are isolated from the sample and expanded under culture conditions.
The cultured fibroblasts are reintroduced into the facial dermis via intradermal injection.

NK Cell Therapy

What is NK Cell Therapy?

This treatment involves proliferating and activating Natural Killer (NK) cells, which play a key role in immune defense against infections and tumors, and then returning them to the body.
A small amount of blood is collected, and in a specialized cell culture processing facility, your own NK cells are cultured and expanded to hundreds of millions to several billion cells, which are then re-administered into your body.
Because immune cell therapy enhances the immune cells that are naturally present in the body, it places minimal strain on the body and can help support prevention against cancer and infections.

Cell Collection
Blood will be drawn from your arm to extract lymphocytes,

Cell Culturing
At a specialized facility, the collected NK cells are cultured for a certain period until they have multiplied sufficiently.
First Administration
Once culturing is complete, the expanded NK cells are returned to the body via intravenous infusion. This outpatient procedure typically takes about 1–2 hours.
Continued Administration (2nd–4th Sessions)
Follow-up and Monitoring
Although NK cell therapy can be performed as a single session, it is generally administered multiple times (typically as a 4-session course) at regular intervals for continued therapeutic support. The schedule will be determined in consultation with your physician.
Monitoring

What is Stem Cell Culture Supernatant? (What is an Exosome?)

At THE HUNDRED, we offer stem cell supernatant IV therapy using adipose-derived stem cell supernatant, dental pulp-derived stem cell supernatant, and umbilical cord-derived stem cell supernatant. Stem cell culture supernatant refers to the sterilized liquid obtained after culturing stem cells from sources such as adipose tissue, dental pulp, and umbilical cord, and removing the stem cells from the culture medium. Recent research has shown that exosomes, a type of extracellular vesicle released by individual cells, are abundantly present in the culture medium used for stem cell cultivation. Exosomes contain proteins and other bioactive substances that reflect the unique characteristics of their originating cells.
